Aunque el miedo nos acosa en este mundo caído, Cristo resucitado viene a nosotros con verdadera paz a través de su Palabra y Sacramentos, reconciliándonos con Dios.

Como los discípulos, a menudo sentimos miedo en esta vida por causa de las aflicciones de este mundo. Parece más seguro escondernos detrás de puertas cerradas. ¿Y por qué no? Ellos vieron a su maestro crucificado brutalmente, y temían ser los siguientes. Así también el diablo, el mundo y nuestra propia carne nos afligen en todo momento. Parece que no hay paz en esta vida para nosotros. Quizás tengamos que esperar hasta la vida venidera para tener paz...
No había paz en este mundo desde la caída. En la caída, Adán y Eva fueron separados de Dios por causa del pecado. Estaban caminando con Dios y hablando con Dios cara a cara. Pero cuando ellos eligieron juntarse con el diablo, esa paz perfecta con Dios fue perdida. En lugar de amor y servicio mutuo había miedo y odio. Ellos ya no podían estar en el huerto con Dios, porque el pecado no puede coexistir con el santo Dios. Ellos fueron echados del huerto, y hasta este día la humanidad ha tenido que luchar para sobrevivir en esta vida.
Pero Cristo resucitado viene a los discípulos en medio de sus miedos y sufrimientos, y les pronuncia paz. Él presenta la evidencia de la paz en sus manos y su costado. En su cuerpo Él llevó el castigo de Dios por nuestros pecados. Y su santa sangre limpió nuestros pecados. “Pero ahora en Cristo Jesús, ustedes que en otro tiempo estaban lejos, han sido hechos cercanos por la sangre de Cristo. Porque Él es nuestra paz, que de ambos pueblos hizo uno, derribando la pared intermedia de separación” (Efesios 2:13-14).
¡Hay paz en esta vida! Jesucristo pronuncia esta paz a nosotros también. Él ha dado su Espíritu Santo a la iglesia, y la paz es pronunciada en el perdón de los pecados por medio del pastor. Y Él viene a nosotros hoy no solamente con palabras de paz. No tenemos que creer solamente la palabra de otro como Tomás. Pero Cristo mismo viene con su cuerpo y sangre en la Santa Cena. Él nos muestra el mismo cuerpo y la misma sangre que hicieron paz con Dios.
El mundo todavía va a afligirnos. Pero no tenemos que estar asustados. Estos sufrimientos no pueden robar nuestra paz. Estamos reconciliados con Dios. Podemos abrir estas puertas y salir al mundo con gozo, confianza y paz.
“Aún si están demonios mil Prontos a devorarnos, No temeremos porque Dios Sabrá aún prosperarnos. Que muestre su vigor Satán, y su furor Dañarnos no podrá; Pues condenado es ya Por la Palabra santa. Sin destruirla dejarán, Aún mal de su grado, Esta Palabra del Señor; Él lucha a nuestro lado. Que llevan con furor Los bienes, vida, honor, La casa, o el hogar... Todo ha de perecer: De Dios el reino queda.” Amén.
Oh Dios misericordioso, que enviaste a tu Hijo resucitado a tus discípulos atemorizados para pronunciarles paz; concédenos que, en medio de los miedos y aflicciones de este mundo, recibamos con fe la paz que Él nos ofrece en su Palabra y Sacramentos, y así vivamos reconciliados contigo y salgamos al mundo con confianza; por Jesucristo nuestro Señor, que vive y reina contigo y el Espíritu Santo, un solo Dios, ahora y por siempre. Amén.

Second Sunday of Easter
Although fear harasses us in this fallen world, the resurrected Christ comes to us with true peace through His Word and Sacraments, reconciling us to God.

Like the disciples, we are often afraid in this life because of the afflictions of this world. It seems safer to hide behind closed doors. And why not? They saw their master brutally crucified, and they feared they would be next. So also the devil, the world, and our own flesh afflict us at all times. There seems to be no peace in this life for us. We may have to wait until the next life to have peace.
There hasn’t been peace in this world since the Fall. In the Fall, Adam and Eve were separated from God because of sin. They were walking with God and talking with God face to face. But when they chose to join with the devil, that perfect peace with God was lost. Instead of love and mutual service there was fear and hatred. They could no longer be in the garden with God, because sin cannot coexist with the holy God. They were cast out of the garden, and to this day mankind has had to struggle to survive in this life.
But the risen Christ comes to the disciples in the midst of their fears and sufferings, and pronounces peace to them. He presents the evidence of peace in his hands and his side. In His body He bore God's punishment for our sins. And His holy blood cleansed our sins. "But now in Christ Jesus, you who were once far off have been brought near by the blood of Christ. For He is our peace, who has made us both one, breaking down the middle wall of separation" (Ephesians 2:13-14).
There is peace in this life! Jesus Christ pronounces this peace to us as well. He has given His Holy Spirit to the church, and peace is pronounced in the forgiveness of sins through the pastor. And He comes to us today not only with words of peace. We don't have to just believe the word of someone like Thomas. But Christ Himself comes with His body and blood in the Lord's Supper. He shows us the same body and blood that made peace with God.
The world is still going to afflict us. But we don't have to be afraid. These sufferings cannot rob us of our peace. We are reconciled to God. We can open these doors and go out into the world with joy, confidence, and peace.
"Even if a thousand demons are ready to devour us, we will not fear because God will still know how to prosper us. Let Satan show his strength, and his fury He will not be able to harm us; For he is already condemned by the holy Word. Without destroying it, they will leave, even if they are unwilling, this word of the Lord; He fights by our side. Who carry with fury The goods, life, honor, the house, or the home... All things must perish: the kingdom remains of God." Amen.
O merciful God, who sent Your resurrected Son to Your fearful disciples to pronounce peace upon them; grant that we, amidst the fears and afflictions of this world, may receive with faith the peace He offers us in His Word and Sacraments, and so live reconciled to You and go forth into the world with confidence; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen
