Jesús Nos Salva por Servicio y para el Servicio

Nosotros debemos servir a Dios, ¿sí? ¡Por supuesto! Dios es el creador. Nosotros somos sus creaturas. Él provee abundantemente todo lo que necesitamos para la vida. Por esto nosotros debemos darle gracias, alabarle, servirle y obedecerle. Él nos creó para que pudiéramos servirle en perfecta justicia, inocencia y bienaventuranza por la eternidad.
Pero, ¿hacemos eso? Cada domingo comenzamos el servicio confesando que nosotros no hemos servido a Dios o a nuestro prójimo como debemos. Porque nuestros primeros padres, Adán y Eva, rompieron nuestra relación con Dios. Ellos se dedicaron a servirse a sí mismos en lugar de a Dios. Así como nosotros dedicamos a servir solo a nosotros mismos.
Pero Dios envió a su hijo Jesús como un Siervo para restaurar nuestra relación con Dios. En la última noche con sus discípulos, él tomó una toalla e hizo el trabajo de un siervo. Él lavó sus pies inmundos. Al principio los discípulos no entendieron, pero luego, en la cruz, entendieron. Este acto de servicio de Jesús apuntaba a su sumo servicio en la cruz. En la cruz, Jesús sirvió a todo el mundo por medio de su sufrimiento y muerte. Su sangre nos limpia de la inmundicia del pecado.
Y también hoy, Jesús continúa sirviéndonos en el servicio divino. En este servicio, Dios nos perdona por medio del pastor. Él nos purifica por su palabra y la predicación de la cruz. Él escucha nuestras oraciones. Y él nos sirve con su propio cuerpo y sangre en la Santa Cena. Nosotros venimos al servicio divino como pobres pecadores, sin traer nada, y salimos con el perdón de los pecados, vida y salvación. Verdaderamente, Jesús nos salvó por sirviéndonos en la cruz y en la iglesia.
Y ¿por qué Jesús nos salva de esta manera? Jesús nos salva por servicio para el servicio. Para que seamos suyos, y vivamos bajo él en su reino y le sirvamos en eterna justicia, inocencia y bienaventuranza. Por fe en la cruz de Jesús, viviremos por la eternidad en los cielos, y allí serviremos a Dios perfectamente otra vez, como Adán y Eva en el principio.
Pero Jesús nos salva no solo para que podamos servirle por la eternidad en los cielos, sino también para que podamos servir a nuestro prójimo ahora mismo en esta vida. Dios quiere que todo el mundo viva en servicio mutuo en los cielos. Pero muchas personas no conocen el servicio de Dios ni su salvación. Entonces, en esta vida, somos las manos y los pies de Jesús para servir a todo el mundo. Él sirve a todo el mundo por medio de nosotros cuando servimos a otros en su nombre.
Y nuestro sumo servicio es llevar a otros al servicio de Cristo, decirles sobre su cruz y muerte por ellos, y llevarlos a la iglesia donde Dios les servirá y donde Dios los salvará. De esta manera, Cristo nos sirve para salvarnos, y él nos salva por el servicio. Él nos salva por el servicio de su cruz y su iglesia. Y ahora, él salva a otros por su servicio atreves de nosotros. Para que todo el mundo otra vez sea suyo, y viva bajo él en su reino y le sirva en eterna justicia, inocencia y bienaventuranza, para la gloria de Dios, por los siglos de los siglos. Amén.
Oh Dios, que enviaste a tu Hijo Jesucristo no para ser servido, sino para servir, limpiándonos de la inmundicia del pecado por su humilde servicio en la cruz y alimentándonos continuamente con tu vivificante Palabra y Sacramento: concédenos que nosotros, habiendo recibido gratuitamente tu salvación, seamos fortalecidos por tu Espíritu para servirte fielmente al servir a nuestro prójimo; Haznos instrumentos de tu gracia, compartiendo con fervor las buenas nuevas del sacrificio de tu Hijo y atrayendo a otros a tu santa Iglesia, para que juntos podamos finalmente servirte en eterna justicia, inocencia y bienaventuranza en tu reino celestial; por Jesucristo, tu Hijo, nuestro Señor, que vive y reina contigo y el Espíritu Santo, un solo Dios, ahora y por siempre. Amén.

Jesus Saves us by Service and for Service

We should serve God, shouldn’t we? Of course we should! God is the creator. We are his creatures. He abundantly provides everything we need for life. For all this we must thank Him, praise Him, serve Him, and obey Him. He created us so that we could serve Him in perfect righteousness, innocence, and bliss for eternity.
But do we do that? Each Sunday we begin the service by confessing that we have not served God or our neighbor as we should. Because our first parents, Adam and Eve, broke our relationship with God. They dedicated themselves to serving themselves instead of God. Just as we are also devoted to self-service.
But God sent His Son Jesus as a Servant to restore our relationship with God. On the last night with his disciples, he took a towel and did the work of a servant. He washed their unclean feet. At first the disciples did not understand, but then, on the cross, they understood. This act of service by Jesus pointed to His supreme service on the cross. On the cross, Jesus served the whole world through his suffering and death. His blood cleanses us from the filth of sin.
And even today, Jesus continues to serve us in Divine Service. In this service, God forgives us through the shepherd. He purifies us by his word and the preaching of the cross. He hears our prayers. And he serves us with his own body and blood in the sacrament. We come to the divine service as poor sinners, bringing nothing, and we come out with forgiveness of sins, life and salvation. Truly, Jesus saved us by serving us on the cross and in the church.
And why does Jesus save us in this way? Jesus saves us by service for service. That we may be His, and live under Him in His kingdom, and serve Him in eternal righteousness, innocence, and blessedness. By faith in the cross of Jesus, we will live for eternity in heaven, and there we will serve God perfectly again, like Adam and Eve in the beginning.
But Jesus saves us not only so that we can serve Him for eternity in heaven, but also so that we can serve our neighbors right now in this life. God wants everyone to live in service to one another in heaven. But many people do not know God's service and salvation. So, in this life, we are the hands and feet of Jesus to serve the whole world. He serves the whole world through us when we serve others on His behalf.
And our supreme service is to bring others into the service of Christ, to tell them about his cross and death for them, and to bring them to the church where God will serve them and where God will save them. In this way, Christ serves us to save us, and He saves us by service. He saves us by the service of his cross and his church. And now, He saves others by His service through us. That the whole world may again be His, and live under Him in his kingdom, and serve Him in everlasting righteousness, innocence, and blessedness, to the glory of God, forever and ever. Amen.
O God, who sent Your Son Jesus Christ not to be served but to serve, washing us clean from the filth of sin by His humble service on the cross and continually feeding us with Your life-giving Word and Sacrament: grant that we, having freely received Your salvation, might be empowered by Your Spirit to serve You faithfully by serving our neighbor; Make us instruments of Your grace, eagerly sharing the good news of Your Son's sacrifice and drawing others into Your holy Church, that together we may finally serve You in everlasting righteousness, innocence, and blessedness in Your heavenly kingdom; through Jesus Christ, Your Son, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen
